The Management Styles Employed By Users Of Scientific...
The management styles employed by users of ‘Scientific Management’ and managers who adopt an approach introduced by ‘The Human Relations School’ are vastly contrasting. The scientific style, popularized by Henry Ford in the early 20th century, involves delegating simpler tasks among employees and creating a ‘production line’. This approach aims to maximize profitability and efficiency. Conversely The Human Relations School considers the Scientific approach to de-skill staff and not cater to their social needs. There are many other differences between these styles, which will be discussed further in this text. Perhaps the simplest way to illustrate the differences is to observe McGregor’s X and Y Theory of Management. The theory highlights†¦show more content†¦In the case of Scientific Management it is clear that the reasoning behind the, de-skilled or maximally specialized tasks is the newfound ability to divide the production process up into simple short tasks. Then it’s possible to train employees to specialize in one particular step. In doing this production rates can increase exponentially. Smith, A. (1776) was one of the first people to recognize this effect whilst he was studying a pin factory in France, productivity increased from 20 pins per 1 worker to 48,000 per 10 person teams. This was also picked up on by Henry Ford who later invented his iconic assembly lines for cars. This of course is an approach that is polar opposite to that advocated by The Human Relations School, and other advocates of job enrichment, however it may be surprising that the second style may also be used to increase efficiency whilst still maintaining job roles of higher responsibility. The Human Relations School believes that having employees tied to one position allows for flexibility within the organization, meaning managers can adapt the varying environments. However a mechanistic approach may be more applicable to more stable conditions. The enriched tasks also help to motivate employees, which therefore results in an increase in productivity, whereas extremely specialized tasks may leave staff

Should Welfare Recipients Be Drug Tested Free Essays
Should welfare recipients be drug tested? Welfare is supposed to meet the basic needs and drugs are far from the basic human needs. If drug using recipients get all the benefits they are more likely to take their check and spend it on their next fix, rather than buy groceries. Drug testing welfare recipients would decrease the amount of people abusing the system, it would require recipients to stay free of using drugs, and would reveal recipients who are wasting the tax payers money. We will write a custom essay sample on Should Welfare Recipients Be Drug Tested or any similar topic only for you Order Now It is clear that drug testing welfare recipients would benefit the system, other recipients, and tax payers. Firstly, drug testing would decrease the amount of people abusing the system. People who are drug users and refuse to stop or get help will not apply for welfare. Also, drug testing would send a message to society that abusing the system will no longer be tolerated and it would free up extra funds for families who actually need the help. Thus, drug testing welfare recipients would stop people who are abusing of the system. Secondly, drug testing will require recipients to stay free of using drugs. If people really need the assistance money then they will chose to either stay clean or get help to get clean. Recipients who fail the test or simply refuse to take the test will not receive an assistance check and without the welfare money people will not be able to afford drugs. Therefore, drug testing welfare recipients would help clean up illegal drug use Lastly, drug testing would reveal recipients who are wasting the tax payer’s money. If the working class has to be drug tested to make their money, those receiving assistance should be drug tested to receive their check. Tax payers should not have to pay for some random person’s drug habit and if people chose to be foolish and want to do drugs they should get a job to support their bad habit. As a result, drug testing welfare recipients would reveal the people who are wasting the tax payer’s money. In conclusion, qualifying and receiving welfare is a privilege and if the government continues to allow drug users collect welfare payment, this will show that they condone their behavior. Drug testing welfare recipients would decrease abuse to the system, require people to stay clean and reveal people who are wasting the tax payer’s money. The government should pass the law to drug test welfare recipients. Hard working, taxpaying citizen’s money is going towards helping people get back on their feet using the welfare system, and far too often people are abusing the system to pay for and support their drug habits. Adolescents Vs Media Essay Example For Students
Adolescents Vs Media Essay The discrimination of adolescents has steadily increased over the years. Adults and media of modern day society discriminate all adolescents behavior based on a small minority of teens. First of all, the behavior of adolescents is a main cause of discrimination. Adolescents want attention from society by acting inappropriately and claiming it as individualism. The new generation of adolescents acts differently mainly because they have too much freedom; there is no one to discipline them. In the past, when adolescents did poorly or behaved inappropriately in school, they were often punished in the form of physical abuse. Youths were disciplined back then but nowadays there are no consequences for their faults, so youths abuse their rights on a regular basis. Additionally, youths are jealous of adults. Adults possess privileges which youths do not such as smoking, watching X-rated movies, and drinking. This factor forces youths to act older than they really are so they can receive the same privileges but youths fail to realize that they are not adults. So by smoking, watching X-rated movies, and drinking, adolescents have earned a bad reputation. However it is a small minority of youths that act this way, and they are ruining the reputation of adolescents as a whole. These individuals are the rotten apple spoiling the barrel. In another case, adolescents are discriminated because of the way youths are portrayed by the media. First of all, the media mainly focuses on negativity. There are rarely any reports on righteous events. In movies, teens are hooligans and thieves. In the movie True Lies, the protagonists daughter stole money and had a punk boyfriend on a motorcycle. The media is also famous for producing bad role models such as Eminem. All adolescents have role models to look up to. The message Eminem sends out through his music encourages teens to act disgraceful. Again, it is the small minority of teens who look up to bad role models and act inappropriate ly that ruins the reputation of adolescents as a whole. Clearly then the only solution to the growing discrimination is a compromise between adolescents, adults, and the media. The minority of adolescents needs to change their behavior. They have to realize that they are ruining the reputation of all adolescents and have to take responsibilities for their actions. Secondly, the perspective of adults towards teens has to change. They have to recognize that not all adolescents are hooligans but it is a minority of teens acting inappropriately. The media would also need to change. Adults watch TV and believe whatever they see, so when teens are portrayed as punks, they become punks. If the media changed their perspective of adolescents, then society would change. If all three sides can change, the discrimination would be dramatically reduced. In order for the discrimination to come to an end, the perspective of the media and adult should change to give adolescents the benefit of the do ubt and judge them with individualism. Furthermore, adolescents also need to change their behavior and take responsibilities for their actions to prove to adults and the media that adolescents are not troublemakers and that looks may be deceiving.
